God commands each believer,
“in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
In an effort to be in the will of God this week, I wanted to share (as I do from time to time) a random list of things that your pastor is thankful for. Some are personal, some are simple, some are spiritual, but all of them are appreciated by me.
I am thankful…
…for the deliciously, sour taste of a juicy Granny Smith apple.
…for crisp, cool chili-eating, sweater-wearing, fire-burning, leaf-raking, football-watching Autumn days! (Fall is my FAVORITE time of year.)
…for getting the opportunity, again, to coach Sam and Jeremiah’s soccer teams at the YMCA. I love teaching, kids, and soccer – so it’s a perfect fit!
…that Barabbas was spared the penalty that he rightly deserved…just like me.
…that, in just a few weeks time, the endless barrage of presidential campaign ads will be off the air. Whew!
…that I live in a country where we have the freedom of speech whereby presidential candidates can use the airwaves, freely and often, to sling mud at their opponents. Freedom is always preferable to tyranny.
…for my precious little, heart-melting 4-month-old girl. What a snuggly, cute little bundle of blessing she is!
…for mexican food. (Yum! Yum!)
…that my Atlanta Falcons have started the season with a first-in-franchise-history 6-0 start! GO FALCONS!!!!! (Now, if we can only win a game in the playoffs…sheesh!)
…that “God’s divine power has granted to me (us) everything pertaining to life and godliness…” (2 Peter 1:3)
…that God is bigger than my worst problems and better than my best belongings.
…that Thomas Edison (and others inventors like him) was not a quitter.
…for my nightly “Bible-time” with my boys. It is a sweet, profitable, father-son memory that I would not trade for anything.
…for our new super-comfy, extra soft, sleep-all-night-without-aches-or-pains mattress.
…for being able to sell old furniture to complete strangers through Craig’s List.
…for my incredible wife, Rebecca, who is a homemaker and homeschooler extraordinaire.
…for the world’s best biographers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
…for all the friendships, conversations, and books that have shaped me.
…for Dr. Pepper 10!
…that Jesus is “the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Rev 22:13)
…that Jo-Jo (my third son, Josiah) just turned 2 and has discovered the joys of “daddy-son wrestle time!” Move over WWE!
…that, even though gas prices are high, my truck’s mpg’s are also pretty high.
…for the Bible-loving, missions-supporting, people known as Forest Baptist Church. It is an endless joy to serve as your pastor, elder, and overseer.
…that “There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins.” And that “sinners plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains.”
What are you thankful for this week? Have you taken the time to tell your family, friends, church, and Lord how much you appreciate them? Why not take some time, this week, and you’re your own list. Give thanks! It is God’s will for you.
